December 25, 2018 - Local 258 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers wishes all members, their families, friends and loved ones a very Merry Christmas.
The union would like to thank those members of the public who remain without power for their support, patience and understanding as many of our members continue to work long days to get the power back on in communities across Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands.
For many of our members, this Christmas Day will be unexpectedly spent with their union brothers and sisters as many are working to repair the damage caused by last week’s windstorm that hit the lower mainland, Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island and many of the Gulf Islands, causing power outages affecting hundreds of thousands. Their hard work has restored power to the bulk of customers, but the extensive damage unfortunately leaves many still without power on this festive holiday.
Our skilled union members have been called in from across the province and others from points east to help, with some of our members also giving up their scheduled vacations to return to work and help with the clean-up, repair the damage and keep the public safe as everyone is working long hours away from their families and loved ones to get the power back on. Local 258 IBEW thanks our members who are working today and recognizes and supports your dedication, commitment, skilled professionalism and quality work as you tend to this difficult situation. And, again, we thank the public for your support, patience and understanding.
If union members need to get in touch with your union during this holiday season, please contact Brother Doug McKay, Local 258 IBEW Business Manager, directly at 604-209-4067. And remember, safety is our #1 priority.
