Feb. 28, 2014 – Local 258 IBEW members working with Line Contractor companies across British Columbia voted by a margin of 75% to ratify a new collective agreement via a mail ballot vote counted this morning in the union’s office in Burnaby.
“Many thanks to our members who participated in these negotiations by putting forward their ideas, and to the Bargaining Committee for their work in achieving this agreement,” says Doug McKay, the Local’s Business Manager. “We also appreciate the effort members have taken to vote in favour of the new contract.”
Assistant Business Manager Dan Giesbrecht, who served on the Bargaining Committee with ABM Don McNabb, says, “We sincerely appreciate the hard work of Brother Jim Leckie and Brother Paul Davis, who work at Allteck, and Brother Henry Bender who works at Arctic Arrow, for their important contributions to these negotiations as members of the union’s Bargaining Committee.”
With the previous contract expiring at the end of January, 2014, the new four-year agreement features increases in wages and living out allowances. The contract also achieved 100% employer paid costs for personal protective equipment required on-the-job.
Local 258 IBEW represents about 900 members working at Line Contractor companies across British Columbia as Linemen and associated skilled trades professionals.
