Shown on the left with IBEW President Ed Hill at the recent All Canada Progress Meeting in Banff, Alberta, Brother Bill Daniels was appointed by the International Executive Council as the First District International Vice President (IVP), effective June 3, 2013.
Originally from Local 402 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Brother Daniels was initiated into the IBEW in 1977 when he completed his journeyman wireman apprenticeship. Becoming active in his union, Bill served on Local 402’s Executive Board before being elected as Business Manager in 1990. He also served as President of the IBEW Ontario Provincial Council of Business Managers.
In 2003, Bill was appointed as an IBEW International Representative to serve Ontario construction Locals. More recently, he served as Executive Assistant to the late First District IVP, Brother Phil Flemming.
Brother Daniels is married with two sons and two grandsons and says he looks forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead to grow the IBEW in Canada.
“I want to continue the important work of International Vice President Phil Flemming and develop new and creative ways to grow our market share and membership,” he says.
In January 2013, Local Union 37 Business Manager Ross Galbraith was appointed to the IBEW International Executive Council (IEC) representing the 8th District, Canada. He is shown in the photo to the left speaking with NextGen delegates at the recent All Canada Progress Meeting held in Banff, Alberta.
Brother Galbraith graduated in 1992 from the Chemical Technology Co-op program at the Saint John campus of the New Brunswick Community College. Upon graduation, he started working in the Health Physics department at Point Lepreau nuclear generating station and immediately took a strong interest in the IBEW. He was initiated into Local 2309 in 1993.
In 1994, Brother Galbraith was elected Unit Chairperson and joined the Executive Board of Local 2309. In the fall of 1996 he started working for the Local as Assistant Business Manager. Local 2309 merged with Local 1733 to form Local 37 in 2000 and Brother Galbraith was elected as Business Manager in 2006.
Ross currently lives in Saint John with his wife and two sons. He is very active in his hometown where he has served on several community committees, most recently on various work groups focusing on sustainable communities, workforce development and a long-term vision for the city.
