June 28, 2013 – As preliminary information is being reviewed in the matter of five workers at BC Hydro being fired for violations of the Corporation’s Code of Conduct policy, Local 258 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers has filed grievances on behalf of the union members who were terminated yesterday.
“At this point, what we are seeing in the termination letters leads us to believe there is ample room within our Collective Agreement to file grievances on behalf of our members who were terminated,” said Doug McKay, Business Manager of Local 258.
“Although we do not condone any illegal activity by any of our members, at this time we are concerned at the shocking allegations being made by this employer,” said McKay. “The grievance process will allow us to ask the questions that have been raised as a result of BC Hydro’s internal investigation that led to these terminations. And we look forward to getting some answers.”
Local 258 IBEW represents approximately 2000 members at who work in powerline, transmission and distribution at BC Hydro.
